Arizona is famous for it's clear dark skies.  It is home of dozens of professional observatories including Kitt Peak National Observatory, Mt. Graham, Lowell Observatory, and Mt. Hopkins Observatory.  With up to 300 clear nights a year and being far enough South to avoid the upper atmosphere turbulence of the jet stream, Arizona is an excellent place for observing the night sky.
